Constantia Nek

Constantia nek is a really quick and easy way to get up onto the mountain for a little hike. There are loads of different paths and trails if you explore in the lower parts in Cecelia forest, as well as the big jeep track that takes you up to various Dams on top of the mountain. The walk we did was just a quick little blitz up the side and is great if you just want to get out and not go for a whole day affair. Its got great views into Hout Bay and has the unique benefit of being able to see both the Atlantic sea board as well as false bay.

The parking is on the north side of the big circle at the top of Constantia Nek. Once you’re there make your way up to the right hand side until you see a sign like the one in the picture above. About 10 meters after the sign there is a little trail, take that. Once you’re at the top you will rejoin the road. Head left and follow the road, if the road starts getting steep you probably went right and you’ve gone the wrong way. After about 100m the road will end and at the end of the road there is a little trail that will take you up.

After another 100m or so you get to another fork, you can either go left and go have a look at the view from the trig beacon, or right and head up the path to get to a beautiful viewing spot in the photo below. I recommend going to check out both! Once your at the viewing rock its your choice whether you want to head on home or keep going. If you keep going you will walk for quite a while but end up at the first dam on top of the mountain.

All in all this is a great little hike to get up a little bit of a sweat as well as take in sum pretty epic views.
